Alexis Chesney MS, ND, LAc

Picture
Alexis Chesney MS, ND, LAc is a naturopathic physician, acupuncturist, author, and educator specializing in complex chronic illness, with particular expertise in Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, mold-related illness (mycotoxicity), mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and dysautonomia.

Since 2010, Dr. Chesney has worked with patients of all ages, focusing on uncovering root causes and supporting the body’s capacity to heal. Her work bridges evidence-informed medicine with thoughtful clinical insight, integrating pharmaceutical and natural therapies when appropriate. She is known for her thorough medical history-taking, careful clinical reasoning, and layered approach to treating sensitive or medically complex patients.

Dr. Chesney maintains a telehealth naturopathic practice serving clients nationally and internationally, and is licensed as a naturopathic physician in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. She is also a licensed acupuncturist in Vermont and Georgia, offering in-person acupuncture services in Savannah, Georgia.

Her mission is grounded in prevention, education, and empowering individuals to better understand their health — a commitment reflected in her book Preventing Lyme & Other Tick-Borne Diseases and her ongoing work in public and professional education.

Clinical Training & Professional Lineage

Alexis Chesney MS, ND, LAc has pursued advanced training with leading clinicians in the fields of Lyme disease, complex chronic illness, and environmentally acquired conditions.

Early in her career, she trained with Richard Horowitz, MD, a pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. This mentorship profoundly shaped her understanding of persistent infections, the Multiple Systemic Infectious Disease Syndrome (MSIDS) model, layered treatment strategies, and the importance of critical thinking.

As her work expanded into environmentally acquired illness, she sought additional training with Richard Shoemaker, MD, in chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS), and with Neil Nathan, MD, a recognized expert in mold toxicity and complex chronic illness. She also completed Mold-Literate Certification under Jill Crista, ND.

In addition, Dr. Chesney has received training in Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT) for alpha-gal syndrome and is a Certified Emotion Code Practitioner, integrating mind-body approaches when appropriate for patients navigating complex chronic illness.

This layered training across infectious disease, environmental medicine, and immune dysregulation informs her integrative clinical model — one that considers infection, toxic exposure, immune activation, and nervous system function as interconnected contributors to chronic illness.

Her approach continues to evolve through ongoing education, clinical experience, and collaboration with colleagues dedicated to advancing care for patients with complex, often misunderstood conditions.

Clinical Focus & Areas of Expertise

Alexis Chesney MS, ND, LAc specializes in the evaluation and treatment of complex chronic illness, with particular expertise in infectious and environmentally acquired conditions.

Her clinical focus includes:
  • Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases (including babesiosis, bartonellosis, and alpha-gal syndrome)
  • Long COVID and post-viral syndromes
  • Mycotoxicity (mold-related illness) and chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS)
  • Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and histamine-related disorders
  • Dysautonomia and autonomic nervous system dysfunction

These conditions often overlap and interact. In many individuals, infection, toxic exposure, immune dysregulation, and nervous system imbalance form interconnected layers that require a thoughtful, stepwise approach to care.

While her practice centers on these complex conditions, she also supports patients experiencing:
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome / myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS)
  • Gastrointestinal disorders, including SIBO and persistent digestive symptoms
  • Nutritional deficiencies and metabolic imbalances
  • Immune dysfunction and inflammatory conditions

Grounded in a holistic perspective, she evaluates the whole person. Her work is rooted in careful medical history-taking, comprehensive assessment, and individualized treatment planning. Pharmaceutical therapies, botanical medicine, nutritional interventions, detoxification support, and other system supports may all be incorporated when clinically appropriate.

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all protocol, her approach focuses on identifying and addressing the most significant drivers of illness at a pace the patient can tolerate — particularly for those who are medically sensitive or have long-standing, complex presentations.

Dr. Chesney approaches complex chronic illness through a systems-based lens that considers infection, environmental exposure, immune regulation, and autonomic function as interconnected. Her work emphasizes careful history-taking, individualized treatment sequencing, and thoughtful integration of conventional and naturopathic therapies.

Author & Educational Contributions

Alexis Chesney MS, ND, LAc is the author of the book Preventing Lyme & Other Tick-Borne Diseases: Control Ticks in the Home Landscape; Prevent Infection Using Herbal Protocols; Treat Tick Bites with Natural Remedies released by Storey Publishing in 2020. A starred Library Journal review of Preventing Lyme says, “Lyme disease, and the debilitating conditions associated with it, is difficult to detect and treat, which makes this book by naturopathic physician and acupuncturist Chesney especially important. Outdoor enthusiasts, parents, pet owners, and those interested in natural medicine will gain valuable practical advice from well-organized, well-written book.”

Alexis Chesney is also the creator of the online course Preventing and Treating Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease: Ticks from Around the World, Diseases They Carry, Prevention and Acute Treatment
.
This expanded educational program integrates current research from over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles and reflects her ongoing commitment to public health education.

In addition to her book and online course, Dr. Chesney developed the Tick Preparedness Kit  — a comprehensive first-aid kit designed for use immediately after a tick bite. The kit includes a professional-grade tick removal tool, a custom-formulated antimicrobial herbal tincture designed to address pathogens commonly associated with blacklegged deer ticks, and supportive remedies to promote healing and recovery.

She currently serves as a preceptor with the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Educational Foundation (ILADEF) Physician Training Program (PTP) mentoring physicians and healthcare professionals seeking advanced clinical training in Lyme and complex chronic illness.
